Tips, taxes, and added fees

Why does a tip screen calculate a tip on tax or a service charge?

A receipt can contain several separate amounts, and a tip screen may not make the calculation easy to understand. These reports focus on what the screen appeared to calculate, with the original source linked whenever possible.

Tip on tax

A report belongs here when the suggested calculation appears to use a subtotal that includes sales tax. The evidence should show the amounts or explain how the customer reached that conclusion.

Tip on a service charge

A service charge is not the same thing as a discretionary tip. Reports in this group describe a tip prompt that appeared alongside, or appeared to calculate from, an existing service charge.

Read the source before drawing a conclusion

Screens and receipts can be hard to interpret from a cropped image. Open the original post or article, check the date, and keep the distinction between a documented calculation and an assumption.
