About this project

About Tip Creep Tracker

A running record of the odd places that now ask for a tip.

What you’ll find here

Each entry covers one checkout, on one date, at one place. We note the suggested amounts and what made the prompt feel out of place. This is about checkout design, not the people working there.

Why the details matter

Tip screens can change from one location to the next, and they can change overnight. That’s why every report keeps its place and date attached.

How much should you trust a report?

Look for the source and evidence labels. They tell you whether a report came from a public post, includes a photo, has been backed up by another report, or was checked by an editor.
