Included gratuity
Do you tip if gratuity is included?
An included gratuity can be easy to miss when it is mixed in with taxes, service charges, and optional additions. This guide does not tell anyone what they must pay; it explains how to identify the listed amount and whether the screen is asking for something separate.
A quick, plain-English guide · about 4 minutes
01
Find the included amount first
Read the receipt for terms such as gratuity, service charge, automatic gratuity, or administrative fee. The exact wording and percentage belong in the record before anyone assumes the charges are the same.
02
A second prompt is a separate event
If the terminal asks for a tip after the bill already lists a gratuity or fee, document both pieces. The subtotal, charge, suggested choices, and final total can make the checkout flow much clearer.
03
Use a full receipt when possible
A cropped payment screen may miss the line that answers the question. A complete, redacted receipt or source link gives readers the facts without exposing personal information.
