Retail tipping
Why are retail stores asking for tips?
Retail tipping is one of the clearest forms of tip creep because the customer may be buying a product rather than receiving a traditional service. This page collects the patterns and reports that help explain the difference.
Retail is a setting, not a verdict
The tracker documents what a checkout showed at a particular store and time. It does not label every employee, location, or franchise based on one report.
Common examples
Reports include merchandise booths, corner stores, specialty shops, and other counters. Search the archive by product, city, or source to see the underlying examples.
What to submit
Include the product or setting, city and state, date, suggested amounts, and source link. A photo is optional, and reports can be submitted without an account.
